SALUDA, N.C. - Robert Frank “Bob” Stribling, 89, formerly of the Putman Community in Union County, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007 at the Autumn Care Nursing Home in Saluda, N.C. He was married for 69 years to the late Matrel O‘Shields Stribling who predeceased him Oct. 17, 2007. He was the last surviving member of hs immediate family.

Mr. Stribling was born in Pauline, May 23, 1918, a son of the late Lamar and Docia Wofford Stribling. He was a graduate of Pauline High School and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Seabees. Mr. Stribling was retired from NAPA Auto Parts Store as a machine shop manager. He was a member of American Legion Post 22, and a member of Putman Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon, church treasurer, Sunday School teacher and Training Union director and a member of the building and grounds committee.

Surviving are two daughters, Helen S. McInnis and husband Dan of Alcolu and Connie S. Kuykendall and husband Terry of Columbus, N.C.; a sister-in-law , Hazel O. Babb and husband Bill of Buffalo; eight grandsons and 13 great-grandchildren. Mr. Stribling was predeceased by a son, Larry Stribling; five sisters, Etolia Vale, Ruby Cooper, Sallie Mae Ivy, Crystal McMeeken and Stella Stribling; and two brothers, Floyd Stribling and Wofford Stribling .

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Putman Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Donald Tillman. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be: Dennis Sherbert, Glenn Sherbert, Harold Gregory, Gerald Graham, Jimmy Sanders, Marshal O'Shields and Donald Babb.

The family will will receive friends following the service in the church social building.

The family is at the home of his sister-in-law, Hazel O. Babb and husband Bill at 3639 Buffalo-West Springs Highway, Buffalo, S.C.

The family will receive friends today, Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at the home of his daughter, Connie S. Kuykendall and husband Terry, 1427 Old Highway 19, Columbus, N.C. 28722.
