Two people have been arrested on drug charges by the Union Public Safety Department, including a man accused of overturning a wheelchair that had someone in it.

Melvin Eugene Eison, 35, of 109 Willow Lane was charged Thursday with disorderly conduct, distribution of crack and distribution of crack within one-half mile of a school.

Tuesday, Cpl. Scott Coffer was called to Henrietta Street after an assault was reported. The victim, a 45-year-old man who uses a wheelchair, said a man named “Tweetie Bird” had pushed him out of his chair while he was playing cards.

The report said the victim had no visible injuries and witnesses would not cooperate.

A second call was received and Coffer went back and received some cooperation from a witness who was there.

Later, Investigator Mickey Parker went back to talk with the victim and the witness. The witness said “Tweetie Bird” grabbed the wheelchair from the bottom and turned it over as the victim sat in it. Parker, who knew Eison and already had arrest warrants on him for the crack sale, identified him as “Tweetie Bird.”

According to the crack cocaine warrants, Eison sold $20 worth of crack to a confidential informant on West Henrietta Street near Excelsior Middle School on Sept. 25.

Also on Thursday, William Reshawn Craig, 30, of 113 Rowell Lane was charged with distribution of crack and distribution of crack within one-half mile of a school. Warrants signed by Parker said Craig sold $40 worth of crack to an informant on West Henrietta Street near Excelsior Middle School on Sept. 27.

Vandalism

Someone wrote racial graffiti on the “G” and “F” buildings at Lakeside Manor Apartments, according to a report taken by Cpl. Jermaine Smith. A Housing Authority employee noticed the damage and notified authorities. Damage was estimated at $100.

Break-in

At 409 Union Boulevard, Owens Lawn and Garden, an attempted break-in was discovered Thursday morning. Owner Bryan Pilkington told Smith he came to work and found someone had broken off the rear door knob and damaged a security camera. The fence had been damaged where someone gained entry to the yard area.

Theft at business

Also on Thursday, a theft was discovered at Cook's Tractor and Equipment Service on 2426 Furman L. Fendley Highway, Jonesville. Owner Clarence Cook told Deputy Tim Gaston that someone took a wooden spool containing around 900 feet of underground electrical wire, size 10-2, with a ground valued at $600 from a large box trailer.

A heat exchanger stored behind the shop had the copper tubing broken off it, causing around $500 damage.

A Milwaukee heavy duty circular saw worth $160 was stolen from Cook's service truck.

Teen arrested

A 15-year-old was charged by the sheriff's office with receiving stolen goods after his mother turned over items she had found in the boy's grandmother's house that were stolen.

The mother gave Lt. Al Black a black bag containing six cell phones, a pair of brown cloth gloves with grip ribs, a Play Station game and an in-dash car CD stereo player. The grandmother brought out two more cell phones while an inventory of the other items was being taken. The items together are worth around $250.

Four of the phones were identified by neighbors as belonging to them. Two of those phones were identified as being stolen from a nearby home Tuesday.

The boy told officers that some of the phones were his and the others he did not know where they came from. He was transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia. His case will be heard in Family Court.

Carbreakings

On 123 Hilltop View, a man told Sgt. James Wicks Thursday that someone broke into his 1991 Mazda and took $5 in change and his Rayban prescription sunglasses, which are worth $250.

A victim on 1425 Santuc Drive told Deputy Tim Gaston Thursday that someone took his stereo system worth $670 from his 1997 Ford Mustang while it was in his yard.

Anyone with information on these thefts is asked to call Union County Crime Stoppers at 427-0800.
