Sis was sitting on the front porch dipping snuff one day when a nice gentleman pulled up in a big car. He asked Sis, “Say lady, how far is it to Lockhart?” Sis answered “well, it is about 4,972 miles the way you are headed, but if you turn around it is seven miles.”

New Baby

Do you remember I told you that we would have a new baby on the upper end of Pea Ridge, near Lockhart Junction? Well, she is here, Janie Emma Williams! Janie was born on Nov. 11, 2011 weighing in at 7 pounds, 7 ounces; she is the daughter of Michael and Haley Williams. Mother and baby doing fine, daddy too!

Good Advice

Mr. Ralph Harris, over in Cherokee County offers this: Fine tune your relationship with your partner, God allows it. Patience, cooperation, consideration, acceptance and compromise will solve all problems with grace.

Good Thanksgiving

We hope you all had a good Thanksgiving, Sis and I went to Cooter and Marie’s for dinner, we enjoyed a fine meal and fellowship. We are truly thankful for all we have.

Note

It is rumored that Harold Guitar Thompson, Buford Brown and their crew will have a Friday before Christmas singing; it sounds like they will sing all religious and spiritual songs about Christmas. So if you plan to go to hear the horseshoe Band on Harris Street and want a special gospel or other type singing, let us know what you think. I hope Guitar will follow through with this plan.

Birthdays And Anniversaries

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Steve Lanier (Dec. 2), Savannah Smith and Jackie Adams (Dec. 9), and Angela Fowler (Dec 10). On Dec. 6, Wayne and Marian will celebrate their anniversary. Wayne will take the wife to the beach, Charleston, Atlanta, then to a movie after the steakhouse.

Insight

Mr. J.D. Bright Jr. offers this quote by Edward S. Martin; Thanksgiving Day comes, by statue, once a year, to the honest man it comes as frequently as the heart of gratitude will allow.

Make A Note

The Christmas Cantata for Fosters Chapel UMC and Bethlehem UMC will be on Sunday, Dec. 18 at Bethlehem Church at 9:30 a.m., and Fosters Chapel at 11:00am. Donna Manus is Choir Director and Rev. Christopher Greene is Pastor. Make plans to attend both.

Puppies

I will be bringing you some info on some beautiful Pomeranian puppies for sale in a few weeks. Will wait until they are ready to sale. They will be ready by New Years.

The Horseshoe Band

Harold Loyd Guitar Thompson called to say that, as he was leaving the Horseshoe Band on Friday, he stumbled and broke his toe. Shirley asked him if he wanted her to call 911. Guitar said, “No, call a tow truck.” Also, Guitar told me that the Horseshoe Band went over to Crestview Baptist Church and sang some Christian songs for their group. Donations were made and Guitar and his band gave it all to a worthy cause.

Fact

Did you know that, on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 1947, the Florida Everglades Park was dedicated? Now, you know.

Lockhart Junction

History lesson for the uninformed. Lockhart Junction is a small place between Jonesville and Kelly on Highway 9. That is where the railroad split off for the train to make its daily run to Lockhart. The train would go down to Lockhart about 10 a.m. every day and come back to the Junction and split off to Union. You could flag the train down and ride to Union for 25 cents. I have done it many times. The railroad was owned by Milliken and since has been removed.

Wisdom

For clovers that bloom about feet,

For tender grass, so fresh, so sweet,

For song of Bird, and hum of bee,

For all things fair we have or see,

Father in Heaven, we thank thee!

— Ralph Waldo Emerson
