Staff Report
A gift drive for local senior citizens in need is currently underway.
Hospice Care of South Carolina is sponsoring a gift drive for local senior citizens and is partnering with local businesses, churches and civic groups to host a “drop box” for gifts. Some gift examples include toiletries, throw blankets, non-perishable food items, socks, pajamas, stuffed animals, sweat shirts, mittens, etc.
Millicent Lann of the Union County Hospice Care of South Carolina Team said seniors should be honored for forming a legacy for future generations.
“Many senior adults have touched our lives,” said Lann. “They have enriched our community through their work, life lessons and leadership. Our senior adults have spent many years giving to our community. Now is our opportunity to show our appreciation by giving a gift for a senior in need.
“Sadly, many of our senior citizens will spend the holidays alone,” Lann added. “Many are without family and without this gift donation they will not receive a holiday gift. The spirit of Christmas is one of giving. Let us give a small token of our appreciation to them for being just … grand!”
Designated drop box locations as of now are as follows:
• USC Union library
• SC Works (formerly Career Source)
• Union County Advanced Technology Center
• Union County Chamber of Commerce
• First Baptist Church of Lockhart
• Philippi Baptist Church
• Union Church of God — Union
Those who want to make donations may do so at the designated drop boxes until Dec. 15.
