The Train Ride

An old man was sitting with his 25-year-old son in the train. The train is about to leave the station.

All the passengers are settling down into their seats. As the train started the young man was filled with a lot of joy and curiosity. He was sitting on the window side. He put out one hand and feeling the passing air.

He shouted, “Papa see all the trees are going behind.” The old man smiled and admired his son’s feelings. Beside the young man one couple was sitting and listening to all the conversation between father and son. They were a little awkward with the attitude of the 25-year-old man behaving like a small child. Suddenly the young man again shouted, “Papa see the pond and animals. Clouds are moving with the train.” The couple was watching the young man in embarrassment.

Now it started raining and some of water drops touches the young man’s hand. He is filled with joy and he closed his eyes. He shouted again, “Papa it’s raining, water is touching me, see papa.”

The couple couldn’t help themselves and asked the old man “Why don’t you visit the doctor and get your son treated.”

The old man said, “Yes, we were from the hospital. Today my son got his eyes for the first time in his life.”

Moral of the story is: We must not come to any conclusion until we know all the facts.

More to come next week …

Tales From The Rough

“Man blames fate for other accidents but feels personally responsible for a hole-in-one.”

— Martha Beckman.

Did You Know?

The average man has five senses: Touch, Taste, Sight, Smell, Hearing. Did you know that the Happy Man has two more: Horse and Common.

Dear Aubrey,

Sometimes, I receive mail from readers, asking me for guidance in their lives. Recently, I received a letter from a reader that I wanted to share with you. “I have two brothers. One attended Clemson. The other was sent to the electric chair. Mother died in the insane asylum. Since I was three years old, my father has been a narcotics dealer. One of my sisters is a successful and highly paid prostitute. The other is a common law wife to a local executive of the Mafia. Recently, I met a wonderful girl (shortly after she was released from prison for smothering her illegitimate baby). We are very much in love, and expect to be married just as soon as her venereal disease clears up. My problem is, Aubrey: ‘Should I tell her about my brother who attended Clemson?’”

Ouch!!

I overheard my pastor talking to a church member the other Sunday and I thought that I would pass this along for your pastor……. The church member asked, “Pastor, how did you get that cut on your face?” “I was thinking about my sermon this morning, and wasn’t concentrating on what I was doing and I cut myself while shaving,” replied the Pastor. The member suggested, “That is too bad. Next time, you had better concentrate on your shaving and cut your sermon!”

Prayer Concerns

With the weather changing every other day or so, many of our loved ones in Union County are being affected health-wise. Let’s keep in our prayers those people who might be having colds, chills, flu, etc. I humbly ask that you keep Anzie’s Aunt Peggy Goins in your prayers that she would get her health back soon.

How Rich Are We?

One day a father and his rich family took his son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose of showing him how poor people can be. They spent a day and a night at the farm of a very poor family. When they returned from their trip, the father asked his son, “How was the trip?” “Very good, Dad!” said the son. The father asked, “Did you see how poor people can be?” “Yeah,” replied the son. “And what did you learn?” inquired the father. The son replied, ” I saw that we have a dog at home, and they have four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of the garden. They have a creek that has no end. We have imported lamps in the garden. They have the stars. Our patio reaches to the front yard. They have a whole horizon.” When the little boy finished speaking, his father was speechless. His son added, “Thanks, Dad, for showing me how poor we are.”

My Thoughts

During these economic times, there are many people in Union County that society would label as being poor people. But, really, who are the poor people? I think that the true poor people aren’t the people who are at the mercy of the government; depending solely on the Social Security checks or/and other income that helps them to barely meet their fiscal debts. I think that the true poor people are those who believe the lie of the devil to think that what they have around them are the symbols of wealth.

The true rich people in Union County as well as in our country, are those people who are the genuine Children of God; obedient to Him in all areas of their lives, desiring to know Him better and better; living in faith that we have a Father who has promised to provide all of our needs according to His richest in glory through Christ Jesus. It is not what we have or can see that makes us rich. It is who we are that makes us wealthy beyond measure.

As Joshua said, “As for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.” And as God has said in the Bible, “As for Me, I will comfort My Children who love Me, obey Me, and seek to walk with Me. So, you see, there are many wealthy people in Union County. Thanks to God, He sustains us in our needs as we praise Him through our faith.

Thought Of The Week

“Our fulfilled needs are more important than our unsatisfying desires.”

Christmas Is Almost Here

Yes, Christmas is within eyesight. As we prepare for Christmas by buying gifts for our loved ones, decorating the Christmas tree, and preparing those Christmas delights, let us also be preparing our hearts and minds for the REAL reason for Christmas. God is giving to us the GREATEST gift that anyone can receive. What is the “greatest” gift that we can give to God?
