Three students who made perfect scores on the 2011 Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (PASS) exam will be recognized for their achievements at Monday’s meeting of the Union County Board of School Trustees.
PASS tests elementary and middle school students in the areas of Writing, English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Director of Secondary Education Cindy Langley said two of the students to be recognized by the board had perfect scores in English/Language Arts while the third had a perfect score in Mathematics.
Announced in July, the results of the 2011 PASS exam showed Union County students made significant gains with the percentage of students passing increasing in 21 of 26 categories with the percentage of students scoring exemplary increasing in 19 of 26 categories.
During Monday’s meeting, the board will also hear from Instructional Coordinator Tabitha Talley about recent workshops and meetings she had with the district’s middle school teachers.
Finance Director Lynn Lawson will present the board with an update on the bond the district issued to fund debt service on Sims Middle and Jonesville Elementary/Middle schools.
The board will also consider requests for an overnight field trip and an out-of-state field trip.
Monday’s meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Union County Career and Technology Center.
