A ladies circle from one Spartanburg church made a donation to assist children in Union County.
The Ladies Uplift Circle of Spartanburg’s Church of Jesus Christ donated school supplies to Union County DSS on Aug. 10. DSS will distribute the supplies to local foster children who need them.
Amy Austin — of DSS — said the Ladies Uplift Circle has made such donations for the past few years and they are greatly appreciated.
The circle — which consists of five members — also donates clothing and food items during the Christmas season.
Circle member Mamie Means said although her church is in Spartanburg, several of the members are from Union, and they wanted to do something for Union County in addition to what they already do in Spartanburg. When the circle decided to donate to foster children of Union County, they were already donating to children’s homeless shelters in Spartanburg.
“We consider these foster children as homeless in a sense,” Means said about those children who are in need of “forever families.”
The circle also makes donations — from fundraisers as well as out-of-pocket funds — to nursing homes in both Union and Spartanburg.
