The Union County girls tennis team started their pre-season over the weekend. The team played at the new Kroc Tennis Center in Greenville on Friday and Saturday ending the tournament tied for sixth place with Clinton.

The team points were scored through wins by Adelaide Adamo and Caroline Moss who won a doubles match against Eastside and Abby Kingsmore and Marissa McNeace who won their opening match versus Travelers Rest.

Kristen Martin won a match over Clinton in the first round and Abby Allen won her second round match over Eastside.

Coach Kelly Jenkins said the tournament was a great experience for the team, adding, “We were able to play against some of the top players in the state and some of the teams that we will see again in the playoffs if we finish at the top of our region.”

The Yellow Jackets are scheduled to participate in the 221 Eye-Opener tournament starting with a match against Landrum Thursday, continuing at Woodruff on Friday and then Dorman on Saturday.

Jenkins said, “We were runners-up in that tournament last season and we hope that with the experience of this past weekend to be ready to compete for the win this year.”
