Sims’ boys basketball team lost a heartbreaker to undefeated Dawkins, 39-33, on Monday.

The Tigers were down 11 at halftime, but showed heart and toughness in the second half.

Sims was led by Keiston Smith with 14 points. Victor Ruth added 12. Amtravlis Jones scored three, while Jordan Spencer and Kalay Jones each had two points.

" The guys showed what we are capable of,” said coach Mitchell Moss. “I really feel like we left everything on the court tonight. To take Dawkins — a team who has not lost in two years — down to the wire shows that the team is improving daily."

The Tigers had their chances and found themselves down by three with under a minute to play.

"We did have our chances, but sometimes the ball bounces a different way than you hoped it would,” Moss said. “Hopefully in the tournament we will get another shot at them."

Sims falls to 4-5 in the conference and travels to Woodruff on Thursday.

SIMS GIRLS

Dawkins defeated Sims’ girls’ basketball team 59-10 on Monday.

Porsha Smith scored four points, Enyahsha Walls had three, Shanitra Stewart had two and Kaitlin Thomason had one.
