As the school year begins, so does a new season for volleyball at UCHS.

Varsity coach Ashley Turner said the region is always strong, but she feels confident that her girls will be competitive. With seven returners, and three moving up from JV, Turner said there will only be two new members and each have a volleyball background having played in middle school.

“We definitely have the experience,” said Turner. “It’s just a matter of putting it together and coming out and doing our best every game, always giving 100 precent.”

Turner added that the team has been working on moving around the court and getting their positions in place.

“Also, communication is key, and these girls are doing that well,” said Turner.

The Varsity will scrimmage Chesnee at UCHS on Aug. 22.

UCHS JV Coach Sherri Jackson said her girls are also going to be a competitive team.

“I’m excited because they already know most of the basics and we can move onto more advanced skills,” said Jackson, adding that her girls are concentrating on serving and passing. Jackson said their main objective at the junior varsity level is to prepare the girls for prep.

“Of course we want to win some games, but keeping them in the program is what is most important,” said Jackson
