The thunderstorm that swept through Union County Sunday evening left approximately 200 residences in the Park Drive and Ziegler Road areas of Union without power until early Monday morning.

City of Union Utility Director Joe Nichols said high winds toppled a tree on Park Drive which took down a power pole and line as it fell. Nichols said the winds also caused tree limbs to fall on to power lines on Ziegler Road tripping circuit breakers and causing people in that area to lose power as well. He said the storm’s damage was limited to those areas leaving “a couple hundred” households without power.

Nichols said the outages occurred around 10 p.m. He said work crews remained on the scene until 3 a.m. when power was finally restored to the last households.
