FLORENCE — The Union Post 22 Junior American Legion found new life after Sunday’s loss to Florence in the State tournament. The team rallied back Monday to defeat Lancaster 15-3, and returned Tuesday night to meet undefeated Socastee.

The revived Post 22 team demolished Socastee 9-1 to continue on in tournament play. Coach Donnie Vinson said he was excited by the attitudes and enthusiasm his players have begun to show.

Recus Hughes picked up the win for Post 22, pitching six of the seven innings. Brandon Parker pitched relief for one inning. Between the two Union aces, only two hits were given up.

“We’re ready to play,” said Vinson, “This team is motivated right now and we have some good energy heading into tomorrow.”

Union squares off against Florence tomorrow at 5 p.m. A win will earn them a spot in the championship game later that night.
