A Lockhart native who played three sports in high school and attended Spartanburg Methodist College (SMC) on an athletic scholarship is now sports editor for The Union Daily Times.
Tiffany Grady-Hudgins took up her duties as sports editor Tuesday morning. Grady-Hudgins has been involved in sports most of her life, playing three sports — softball, basketball and cheerleading — at Lockhart High School. After graduating from high school, Grady-Hudgins attended SMC where she played on the softball team.
She then transferred to USC Union where she majored in English/Journalism and graduated with an Associate’s Degree.
Following graduation from USC Union, Grady-Hudgins worked at Austin Rehab and then spent the past year working as a stringer for the Chester News & Reporter covering sports. Grady-Hudgins also covered sports as a member of the journalism staff at SMC. A member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist, Grady-Hudgins is her church’s choir director and writes for its newsletter.
In addition to playing and covering sports, Grady-Hudgins has also been a coach, coaching girls softball.
The daughter of Wayne and Mary Ann Grady, Grady-Hudgins lives in Lockhart with her husband Matt. Her father, Wayne Grady, also played three sports — baseball, football and basketball — at Lockhart High and attended SMC on a baseball scholarship. He was inducted into the Union County Hall of Fame several years ago.
“He’s been such a motivation to me and my brothers to stay in sports,” Grady-Hudgins said.
Grady-Hudgins said she is happy to be working for The Union Daily Times and is looking forward to covering sports in Union County.
“Sports is in my blood, I’ve always been around it, played it, watched it and coached it,” Grady-Hudgins said. “Sports is what I know and I really love writing about sports. I’m grateful for the opportunity to write about sports in my community.”
