CLEMSON — The S.C. Botanical Garden at Clemson University is inviting artists, craftsmen, musicians and roving street performers to participate in Art in the Garden 2011, an arts festival celebrating the art and culture of South Carolina.
The festival will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 26. The plan is to transform the Garden into a street fair reminiscent of those in Paris in the late 1800s.
An Artists’ Promenade along the garden trails will connect the historic Hanover House with the Fran Hanson Visitor Center. Garden staff members will conduct workshops and children’s activities to add to the day’s entertainment.
The festival will close with the season’s first concert in the Garden amphitheater with performances by area musicians. Concerts in the Garden will continue each Friday evening from Aug. 26 through Oct. 29, from 7 p.m. until.
Artists, craftsmen, musicians and street performers are invited to register for Art in the Garden by Aug. 1. There is no entry fee, although a Garden membership is encouraged. Contact April Maxwell at maxwel2@g.clemson.edu or 864-656-3405.
