Union County’s boys soccer team didn’t stop with just making history by making a postseason appearance.

The Yellow Jackets picked up a win in the first round of the AAA soccer state playoffs at home Tuesday.

Union County eliminated Belton-Honea Path 4-2 in what became an intense matchup between upper state foes.

B-HP scored in the 14th minute for an early lead. The Yellow Jackets’ sail seemed to be deflated until the second half.

In the game’s 76th minute, UCHS made a push when they knotted the score on an out-of-bounds pass.

The tension tightened as both teams headed into overtime play.

After four periods of extra play, the game was decided on penalty kicks.

Union County struck first as Cody Boulware’s kick sailed in to give the Yellow Jackets a 2-1 advantage.

The Bears answered back with a goal of their own to tie the game, 2-2.

Yellow Jackets junior Dayne Jackson scored another goal for Union County for a 3-2 advantage.

Both goalies blocked the next kicks and the deciding penalty kick laid at the foot of Union County’s Julian Schoulz.

Schoulz’s goal sailed into goal’s upper netting for Union County’s first boys soccer playoff victory.

The Jackets are now headed to Fort Mill on Wednesday for a second round matchup.
