The other Sunday morning in Sis’s Sunday School Class at Foster’s Chapel UMC, the teacher asked all the folks in the class what could be done to repay China the $14 trillion that we owe. Everyone in the class gave their opinion as to what could be done to repay the huge debt. When the teacher, Kenneth Hoyt Sanders, asked Sis what she thought, she answered, “Well, I could give a dollar per month out of my Social Security Check until it gets paid off.” The nice teacher told Sis, “Sis, that would be about like giving Kellogg another corn flake!”

Making Union County Better

I noticed that the folks at the Union County Detention Center was picking up trash and litter on SC 18. That will help Union County to attract more visitors and maybe some new plants.

Volunteer Of The Year

Congratulations to my neighbor, Barbara Black as Volunteer of the Year for Mary Black Hospital. As rumor has it she made a lot of cakes to gain this honor, but got a nice award and wonderful meal at the Spartanburg Country Club. We are very proud of Barbara!

Lending And Borrowing

My friend, Dude Palmer over in the Meadowoods Community, tells me never to loan money to a friend. It will make an enemy out of him, and you will probably never see him again. He also says since we owe China $14 trillion, they will not become our enemy, because they hope someday to be repaid.

Remember In Prayer

Keep in your prayers Miss Cindy Whitehead who has recently undergone knee surgery. Also, at this writing David Knox has underwent successful surgery at Spartanburg Regional. Please keep this family in your prayers as David has a long way to go.

Special Person Of The Week

Our Special Person of The Week is Monty Jo Bogan, Jr. Monty recently won the stock car division, defeating 25 other drivers. Monty Jo, Jr. drives a Chevrolet Camaro prepared at his father’s shop in Union. Goes to show we have something happening in Union County. Way to go Monty.

Remember In Prayer

Kenneth Hoyt Sanders and his donkey both have a sore leg and knee. Let us keep Kenneth and his donkey in our prayers.

Proof Positive

Someone asked Harold Lloyd “Guitar” Thompson how we could prove that the cow jumped over the moon. His answer was, well, the cow had a motion camera tied to its leg and took a picture. Guitar says come on down to Harris Street on Friday nights to the Horseshoe Band for some good picking and singing.

Continue To Remember In Prayer

Mary Knox wishes to thank all who have offered their prayers, cards, visits and concerns for David while he is slowly improving and she asks that you continue to pray for him and the family.

Also Remember In Prayer

Mrs. Juanita L. Fowler asks that we include Mr. Calvin Martin and Mr. Sam Bryant in our prayers. Juanita is feeling much better since trying my recipe for collimodgus.

Thank You

Our thanks to Mr. Worry Kirby for all his help in getting the Union Weekly Grapevine to his friends and shut-ins. We need folks like Worry Kirby to help get the word out.

Good Food

Have you tried the hamburger steak at “The Café” on Main St. in Jonesville. It is delicious. Tell them I sent you.

A Trip To Hilton Head

Sis Haney, Ada Gregg and Leslie Putze enjoyed a trip to Hilton Head last weekend. Went to see new baby, Briggs Aden Rogers. Miss Ada Gregg is the great-grandmother of this baby. Her name was left off when the picture was run. Mother, daddy and baby are doing fine.

Happy Birthday

Mr. George Boughman celebrated his birthday on Sunday, April 24. Sis and I, along with Sput, Marie and Chris dropped by to say hello and to wish him many more. George has lots of friends and many of them were there.

Lovely Words

Judy to J.D, Bright: “Honey, say them three little words that I love to hear.”

J.D. to Judy: “It’s Bo time!”

Insight

J.D. Bright, Jr. offers this:

It is not the part of the bible that we don’t understand that gives us trouble. It is the part that we do understand.

— Mark Twain

Note

May 5 will be National Day of Prayer, please put up a prayer for someone who is ill or otherwise needs prayer.

Wisdom

Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. It comes into us at midnight very clean. It is perfect when it arrives and puts itself in our hands. It hopes we have learned something from yesterday.

— John Wayne

Till next time
