Union County’s varsity softball team wasted no time taking the lead vs. Blue Ridge on Tuesday.
The Lady Jackets scored nine runs in the first inning en route to a 23-o win vs. the Fighting Tigers at Timken Sports Complex.
Senior Kelsey Harris had two triples in the first inning to lead the Jackets with a 4 for 5, five-RBI performance.
“We played our best game of the year,” UCHS coach Danny Gault said.
A stingy defense and stellar pitching by Ashley Vaughan shutout Blue Ridge. Vaughan allowed only two hits to pick up her seventh win.
Gault acknowledged that Tuesday’s performance must continue as the regular season winds down.
“This was the way I expected them to play all year and that this was the level they should be competing against everyone they play,” Gault told players following the region win vs. Blue Ridge.
The Jackets hosted Clinton on Wednesday but there were no game results before Thursday’s press deadline. Be sure to read Friday’s edition of The Union Daily Times for stats and scores.
