WEST COLUMBIA — Funeral services for Mr. Dennis G. Beard, 63, husband of Kay Mull Beard were held Sunday, April 3, 2011 in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington.

Mr. Beard passed away March 31, 2011. He was born in Orangeburg, a son of the late George Ervin Beard, Sr. and Helen Miriam Squires Beard. A 1965 graduate of Union High School, Mr. Beard had also served in the US Army and was a member of Kitti Wake Baptist Church. He was the owner of University Books at Francis Marion and had retired from the S.C. Bookstore in 1996.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Kim Beard Huneycutt; a son, Rodney Beard both of West Columbia; sisters, Linda

Beard Smith and George Anne Beard Osborne, both of Union; a brother, George E. Beard, Jr. of West Columbia; three grandchildren; and a half-sister, Jewel Ann McAlister.

Mr. Beard was predeceased by a son, Lawrence Travis Beard.
