Chief Sam White of the Union Public Safety Department said Stephon Hopkins, 18, of 213 May St. was taken into custody at a residence on William E. Free Pathway around 4 p.m. Hopkins is being held in the Union County Jail on charges of first-degree burglary and stealing dogs.
“We received word he was on William E. Free Pathway and city and county officers teamed up together and apprehended him,” White said.
Sylister Dantrelle Jeter, 18, of 106 Richard St. was arrested on New Year’s Eve in the case and faces the same charges.
Sandra Colette Freeman, 32, of 104 William E. Free Pathway was charged Dec. 30 in the case with receiving stolen goods.
The break-in and theft of the dogs was reported around 1 a.m. on Dec. 29 on 413 West South St.
The victim told Officer Angela Cogdill that she heard someone inside the house and tried to wake her boyfriend, but he is a heavy sleeper. By the time they got up to check the house, their two pit bull dogs had been taken. A large red duffel bag was left behind in the hallway.
Strips of wood on the kitchen door used to hold a window pane in place were missing but the glass was not broken, the report said. The victim provided Cogdill with a picture of the dogs, one worth $75 and the other worth $150.
White said officers received a tip that Ms. Freeman had one of the dogs at her home. Investigator Mickey Parker went to the residence, saw the dog and took possession of it.
The investigation then led to Hopkins and Jeter.
