A Union man ended up in jail after he allegedly shoved a woman, hit her in the head and then attacked her with a belt.

Roland Lindsey, 53, 106 Habit Lane, Union, is charged by the public safety department with assault and battery.

The incident report states an officer was dispatched Monday night to 200-B Lipsey St., Union, in reference to children and a woman screaming. When he arrived, the officer heard the woman and children inside screaming. As the screaming continued, the officer knocked on the door several times but got no response. The officer discovered the door was unlocked and announced police several times. As he did, the officer could hear a woman and an adult male screaming from up the stairs.

As he walked up the stairs, the officer announced police several more times. The report states he then saw a black male coming down the stairs with a belt in his hand. The officer noticed the man had been drinking alcohol and told him to have a seat on the couch.

The report states the victim then came down the stairs and told the officer she’d came to the apartment to help a juvenile relative with homework. While she was there, she said Lindsey became angry, shoved her into the couch and started hitting her in the head. She said he then got a belt and started hitting her with it. The victim, who the report states had bruises on her left leg and left arm and a large scratch on her right shoulder, said she wanted to press charges against Lindsey.

Lindsey was then taken into custody and transported to jail.
