Ms. Gregory weds Mr. Young

Amy Elizabeth Gregory and John Henry Young, both of Greenwood, were married Jan. 3, 2009, at Main Street United Methodist Church, Greenwood. The Rev. James D. Dennis Jr. officiated the 2 p.m. ceremony.

A reception was held at The Gatewood Club.

Wedding music was provided by vocalist Kelli Brown Mullinix, organist Joyce Nickles and trumpeter Byron Hilley. Scripture readers were Elizabeth Young Lieb and Suzanne Young Elting.

The bride is the daughter of Elizabeth F. Gregory of Buffalo and the late George Carlton Gregory Jr. The groom is the son of Ellen M. Young of Warsaw, Ill. and the late John “Bob” Young.

Escorted by her cousin, Kevin Cecil Farmer of Wellford, the bride chose a white A-line satin gown with beaded lace on tulle overlay. The strapless empire bodice, adorned with crystals and pearls, fell to a chapel-length train. She wore her mother’s headpiece, enhanced with an elbow length, double-layer veil of what tulle accented with pearls and rhinestones. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of white roses and carnations.

Matron of honor was Cynthia Gheen Reed of Greenwood. Bridesmaids were Allison Marie Atkinson of Marion, Margaret Louise Campbell of Moore and Candace Danielle Farmer of Roebuck. Junior bridesmaid was Morgan Lawson Harris; flower girl was Haley Catherine Farmer, both of Wellford.

Best man was Scott Allen Sutton of Nauvoo, Ill. Groomsmen were Thomas Dee Hopp of Nauvoo, Ill., Daniel Joseph Mesecher of O’Fallon, Mo. and Merle Craig Turner of McHenry, Ill. Ushers were Zachary Michael Barnett of Knoxville, Tenn., Michael Scott Farmer of Pauline and Steven Scott Farmer of Roebuck.

Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Betenbaugh were greeters at the reception.

Register attendants were Donna Smith Langford and Angelia Smith Owens.

The bride is a 1991 graduate of Union High School, 1995 graduate of Winthrop University and obtained a Master of Educational Leadership from Troy University in 2003. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Educational Leadership from Clemson University. She is employed with Greenwood School District 50. She is the granddaughter of Ruth W. Gregory of Buffalo, the late Carlton Gregory and the late Mr. and Mrs. Leon Farmer.

The groom is a 1988 graduate of Hamilton High School and a 1993 graduate of Western Illinois University. He is employed with Grede Foundry, Greenwood. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Young and the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Thalman.

The couple will reside in Greenwood.
