Union Christian lost 51-11 vs. Tabernacle in girls basketball action Monday.

The Lady Eagles were battling without leading scorer Whitney Shetley — who was out with an injury— but Eagles’ head coach Tommy Mann was pleased with the girls’ effort.

“I was proud of Polly (Shetley) and Tristen (Cudd) for how they filled in for them in their first starts. They were seventh graders going against girls in high school, and they held in and played tough,” Mann said.

Elizabeth Spencer led the Lady Eagles with five points, three rebounds and one block.

In action last Friday UCDS downed Lake Pointe 34-23 in girls basketball action last Friday.

All nine Lady Eagles contributed to the win as they all recorded at least one rebound and seven had at least one steal.

In the team effort, UCDS compiled 28 steals vs. the Mariners.

Union Christian’s Whitney Shetley finished one rebound shy of a triple-double. The freshman guard recorded 27 points, 11 steals and nine rebounds before exiting the game early with an injury. She is expected to miss one week action due to the injury, according to Mann.

Lady Eagles’ Bella Spencer had two points, nine steals and five rebounds. Chelsea Walker added seven rebounds and three steals in the Eagles’ win vs. Lake Pointe.

The Eagles held a 9-0 advantage after one period of play but could not maintain the lead as the Eagles fell 63-20 vs. Tabernacle.

Union Christian’s Grant Shetley led the Eagles with 10 points and eight rebounds.

In a game similar to Monday’s, UCDS could not get anything going in the second half as the Eagles fell to Lake Pointe last Friday.

Lake Pointe made the necessary adjustments to hold off Union Christian Day School’s boys’ basketball team 42-20.

Lake Pointe led by three, 18-15, at halftime but a defensive switch limited the Eagles’ second-half production to five points. UCDS struggled to move the ball effectively vs. Lake Pointe’s and the Mariners’ 1-3-1 defense caused the Eagles frustration.

“They brought two defenders to the half-court line and the pressure disrupted our offensive sets,” Mann said.

Shetley managed 11 points, 13 rebounds and five steals despite being in foul trouble vs. the Mariners. Sophomore guard Brandon Heatherly chipped in with six points and 14 rebounds. Leland Comtois added nine rebounds for the Eagles.
