Mrs. Kelly Montgomery is named 2010-2011 Foster Park Teacher of the year. Mrs. Montgomery earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Winthrop University. She is currently in her sixth year of teaching. Mrs. Montgomery has taught second and third grade, including a year of looping. She is a second grade teacher at Foster Park Elementary and has been employed with the Union County School District for three years. Mrs. Montgomery is from Pomaria, S.C. and moved to Union when she married Kevin Montgomery in 2009. Mrs. Palmer, principal at Foster Park states, “Mrs. Montgomery has high expectations for her students and this is evidenced by the high achievement of her students on standardized testing. She received an overall rating of ‘excellent’ in all subject areas on PASS testing last year. She is a master teacher who is always willing to share ideas with her team teachers. She makes learning interesting and fun and meets the needs of all students. We are fortunate to have Mrs. Montgomery as part of our teaching staff.” The entire school watched Mrs. Montgomery receive the announcement about being named Foster Park’s Teacher of the Year (via cell phone) from her brother, Jeff Brooks, who is stationed in Afghanistan. This emotional time was also shared with several of her family members who attended the drop-in for Mrs. Montgomery.
