WHITMIRE, SC — Luke B. Hart, 82, 476 Colonial Dr., died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010 at his home.

He was born in Kelton, SC and was a son of the late James Duncan and Sara Louise Gallman Hart.

Mr. Hart was a graduate of Louisiana State University School of Banking. He retired as President of the Bank of Williston then served with the Federal Land Bank for 10 years. He also retired as a Summary Court Judge of Newberry County. He was Past President of the S.C. Independent Bankers’ Association; past member of the Newberry County Development Board; Chairman of the Barnwell County District 29 Board of School Trustees; member of the Goodfellas’ Club; the American Legion; member of the Roseboro Masonic Lodge for 50 years; life long member of the Whitmire United Methodist Church where he served as Financial Secretary and presently served as Lay Member to the Annual Conference. Mr. Hart was a US Air Force veteran and in 2008 was inducted into the Union County Athletic Hall of Fame.

Surviving are his wife, Cornelia Stone Hart of the home; one son, William Luke (Bill) Hart and wife Brownie of Blythewood; two daughters, Anita Hart Maness and husband David and Neely Hart Kelly and husband Richard, all of Union; three brothers, John D. Hart of Winston Salem, NC, Frank M. Hart of Union, Russell E. Hart of Roebuck; and a special sister-in-law, Margaret Garner Hart of Jonesville; five grandchildren, Michael Hart Maness, Adam Dupree Hart, Luke Smith Hart, Richard McKay Kelly II, Mae Anita Maness; and one great grandson, Garrison McKay Kelly.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Carlisle Hart and James Edward Hart, both of Jonesville.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Nov. 26, at 11 a.m. at the Whitmire United Methodist Church with burial in the Whitmire Cemetery with Masonic Rites.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Gray Funeral Home in Whitmire.
