JONESVILLE — Josie Belk Porter Fowler, 92, of 507 N. Main St., Jonesville,
widower of William Roy Porter and Ernest Fowler, went to be with the Lord
Friday, Dec. 27, 2008, after years of declining health.
Mrs. Fowler was born in Union July 11, 1916, a daughter of the late Javis
Monroe Belk and Lilly Ann Smith Belk. She was retired from Lockhart Mill and
was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church of Jonesville.
Mrs. Fowler was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are three daughters, Betty P. Dabbs of the home, Hazel P. Horne of
Union and Nancy P. Clayton and husband Bobby of Jonesville; 10
grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; a
number of step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Fowler was predeceased by a son, Joe David “Bud” Porter; six brothers
and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at
Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel conducted by the Rev. Jim Ivey and the Rev.
Ralph Brown. Burial will be in the Porter Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Mrs. Fowler’s grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
The following will form the honorary escort: Mr. and Mrs. Warren Little, Mr.
and Mrs. Nig Turner, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Moore, the Rev. Randy Smith, Doris
White, Dr. John Flood and Ailene Roberts.
Visitation will be held this evening from 7 until 9, Monday, Dec. 29, 2008,
at Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Nancy and Bobby Clayton, 515 N.
Main St., Jonesville, S.C. 29353.
