Photo courtesy of Monarch Elementary School Encouraging early literacy Union County Schools’ Title One Parenting Program partnered with the Pregnancy Center of Union to offer reading information with parents of young children. Christy Casey, Title One Parenting Coordinator, offered tips to parents with young children using Mem Fox’s guide to encourage early literacy. Parents attended the class March 14 at the Pregnancy Center. Parents were given information on how to read with young children and afterwards were given a book for their child, baby bucks from the Pregnancy Center, and a Reading Quilt. Reading Quilts were donated by volunteers in a quilting club in our area.

Enrichment program prepares children for kindergarten
UNION — The Grace United Methodist Child Enrichment Program (GUMCEP) is much more than an average daycare. Ethan Kerr, Caden Henderson, Darwin Pimental-Tadeo, and Niquievius Route are shown comparing evidence slides. Students were required to observe, describe, and identify several pieces of evidence. They also had to read and analyze written witness testimonies to determine who was responsible for committing the crime. Finally, they had to name a suspect and explain their reasoning for naming the suspect.

From that day forward, the cross, that instrument of public humiliation, torture, and execution, became a constant reminder of God's love for us and what He and His Son did out of that love. In so doing, the cross, that dreadful instrument of death, became a symbol of the enduring goodness, love and mercy of God toward His wayward children and what He was willing to sacrifice and His Son endure for the salvation of those children.
