UNION — A fire that destroyed two outbuildings and damaged three residences Friday evening is still under investigation. The report filed by the Union Public Safety Department states that a fire truck was dispatched at 6:29 p.m. to 205 N. Mountain St. in reference to multiple outbuildings being on fire. The Cat in the Hat read a book called Oh, The Thinks You Can Think! The Cat in the Hat was at Foster Park to assist in the Read Across America Event. He visited each classroom and encouraged students to read. Photo courtesy of Foster Park Elementary School Pennies for Patients In January we started off with the Kick-off Assembly for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Pennies for Patients. At the Kick-off Assembly the school guidance counselor, Ms. Blackwell-Boyd, explained to the children about the illness and becoming ambassadors for LLS by raising money to help children and adults with Leukemia. By the end of February the children and their teachers at Foster Park raised a total of $1,358.95. I am proud to report that Mrs. Jan Ivey’s third grade class won the incentives: a $50 gift certificate from LLS and a $50 cash incentive from Ms. Blackwell-Boyd. Her class raised a total of $156.88. Mrs. Jeanne Willard’s fourth grade class came in second place raising a total of $91.52 and Mrs. Sheila Bates’ first grade class came in third place raising a total of $91.23. Their classes received a Pizza Party as an incentive. We are certainly proud of all of the students and teachers who raised money for this worthwhile campaign. We have some Awesome ambassadors here at Foster Park Elementary School!

Charles Warner|Daily Times Firefighters from four fire departments were dispatched to the scene of a fire Friday evening. Capt. Greg Pickens of the Union Public Safety Department said the fire apparently began in an outbuilding on North Mountain Street and then spread to a nearby outbuilding on Wedgewood Court. Firefighters were still on the scene extinguishing hot spots and trying to determine the cause of the fire at press time. The Bonham, Monarch, Southside, and Union fire departments responded to the blaze. Pickens said there were no injuries.

UNION — An outbuilding on North Mountain Street was destroyed and an another on Wedgewood Court damaged by the same fire Friday evening.
