UNION — With a chance of rain and low temperatures predicted to be around 40 degrees, Saturday’s second annual Easter Egg Scramble — sponsored by the Union County Recreation Department and Woodmen of the World — will be held indoors.
The Easter Egg Scramble event will be held from 5-7 p.m. in the main exhibit hall of the Union County Fairgrounds. The only fairgrounds gate that will be open is the one located on Old Buffalo Road, across from Two Sisters Florals.
Recreation Department Program Director Jessica Gallman said the main exhibit hall will be divided into separate areas of festivities. Many of the exhibit booths will be used for games such as an egg toss, an Easter egg relay and “Easter Bunny Says.” After children play games, they will receive a ticket, and they will have an opportunity to turn in all of their tickets for prizes based on the number of tickets. Student volunteers from the Union County High School Interact Club will be on hand to lead games and help the children.
“The Interact volunteers will be keeping the children interested and making the games fun,” Gallman said.
In the Clemson Meeting Room, the Woodmen of the World will offer pictures with the Easter Bunny and their Child ID program.
Gallman said face painting will be offered again this year, as it was a hit at last year’s scramble.
“Everybody loved that,” Gallman said. “We were face painting for hours, even after the scramble was over.”
Recreation Department after-school counselors have volunteered to paint faces.
Gallman said three quarters of the exhibit hall will be designated for the actual Easter Egg Scramble, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. Children will line up according to age, and the three age groups will be 1-3, 4-7, and 8-10.
“As many eggs as they can pick up, that’s what they take home,” Gallman said.
Each egg will have either a piece of candy or a toy inside. There will be one “prize egg” for each age category, and the prize egg can be traded for a prize Easter basket.
