UNION COUNTY — At least 10 of the more than 60 people who turned out for Thursday’s job fair could soon be working in the Jonesville area and the company that sponsored the event could be doing even more hiring in the future.
The job fair, which was held at the SCWorks Union office, was sponsored by American Services, Inc., and its subsidiary, ACI Janitorial Services. ACI is providing janitorial services to a client in the Jonesville area and Thursday’s job fair was held to recruit local residents for those jobs.
Cindy Mohrmeyer, company services representative for American Services, said a total of 66 people turned out the for job fair. Mohrmeyer said all those who attended the job fair were interviewed and of those a large number are strong candidates for employment with ACI. She said she believes at least 10 will be hired by ACI to work as janitors for the Jonesville client and that she expects her company will be hiring more Union County residents in the future.
“It was great, we really appreciate the people in Union coming out and applying,” Mohrmeyer said Thursday afternoon. “We appreciate SCWorks letting us have it there. We had a great turnout, we had some really good applicants and we look forward to working with the people of Union again.”
Mohrmeyer added that she also looks forward to working with SCWorks in the future.
Keep Applying
During Thursday’s job fair, Katherine Pendergrass, business services consultant for SCWorks Union, told those applying that even if they weren’t hired by ACI they could conceivably end up jobs with other companies looking to hire people to work in Union County and in neighboring counties.
“If you are not hired by this agency I’m going to shop your names around to other companies that have posted jobs with us,” Pendergrass said. “Some of the other job postings we’ve received are in Union and Jonesville. There’s also a couple of agencies hiring for Gaffney and Spartanburg.”
Pendergrass also urged those applying Thursday to keep applying every chance they get because this increases the odds of their eventually being hired.
“Continue to apply because it’s a numbers game,” Pendergrass said. “The more you apply the more likely a job will land in your lap.”
