Union Public Safety reported the following arrests:
— Robert McKanic, Jr., 24, of 221 East Main Street, Union, was charged with four counts of second-degree burglary, three counts of petit larceny and malicious damage to property. According to arrest warrants, McKanic broke into the office area of Fairforest Apartments between January 4 and January 7, taking a total of $240; then again between January 14 and January 15, taking $92; and yet again on Jan. 18. Warrants say McKanic also broke into Glitter and More, located at 225 East Main St., Union, between January 4 and January 8, taking $120 as well as trashing the business by throwing items on the floor and ripping cameras off the wall.
— Timothy Lamar Smith, 21, of 406 South Mountain Street, Union, was charged with malicious damage to property on January 19. According to the arrest warrant, Smith threw a Blackberry cell phone — which belonged to someone else — to the ground. The phone was broken and could not be used.
— Keith Santel Woods, 33, of 126 Perrin Avenue, Union, was charged with criminal domestic violence and petit larceny around 8:15 a.m. on January 20. According to arrest warrants, Woods choked and pulled a knife on a female during an argument at his residence. Warrants also say Woods took a Sanyo Kiasarra cell phone belonging to the aforementioned female.
— Perry Lee Williams, 36, of 100 McNeace St., Union, was charged with driving under the influence around 4:15 a.m. on January 19.
— Willie Edward Ruth, 67, of 210 Davis St., Union, was charged with driving under the influence around 10:55 p.m. on January 18.
Union Public Safety reported the following incident:
— A pastor who serves for Fairforest Apartments reported on January 21 that on January 18, a food pantry at the building was broken into. An officer noticed someone had tried to cut a cable keeping the door secure but was unable to make entry. The top of the pantry is open and covered by chicken wire, and the officer reported that it appeared that someone gained access by climbing over the top. The pastor said that several packs of Ramen noodles were all that was missing from the pantry. He also said the food is donated, and if someone would have asked, he would have given it to them. The building manager said she wanted to report the incident in case something bigger came of it.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:
— Melvin Thompson, 49, of 175 Robinson Farm Road, Jonesville, was charged with breach of peace around 10:05 p.m. on January 19. According to the incident report, officers responded to Thompson’s residence for a domestic dispute, and while speaking with him he continued to yell and use profanity toward another party, asking for her to be arrested for hitting the hood of his truck. After separating Thompson and the other party, he made a threat to kill other party and anyone else who touched his truck. Thompson was placed under arrest and transported to Union County Jail.
— Boris Lamont Smith, 29, of 178 Summer Valley Road, Buffalo, was charged with the following offenses around 11:30 p.m. on January 18: driving under the influence, driving under suspension, habitual traffic offender and open container.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office reported the following incidents:
— An employee of the City of Union Utilities Department reported on January 18 that while checking meters at 209 Lovers Lane Road, someone had been using electricity and water at a location after both were shut off by the city on November 27. The officer was unable to get anyone to come to the door.
— A resident of King Kennedy Street, Carlisle, reported on January 18 that a Registry of Historic Places marker was stolen from his home. The victim said the marker is made of metal and valued at $100.
— A resident of Highway 56 in Enoree reported on January 21 that he was awakened between 12:30 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. by a loud noise. After getting up around 1:40 a.m., the victim noticed the following items missing from his residence: an unknown number of pills (some from a lock box and some from his wife’s pocket book), one of the keys to his lock box and a drink from inside his refrigerator.
