JEMS spelling bee winners named
Jonesville Middle School students participating in a recent spelling bee included, front row from the left, Randy Riddle, Hanna Shoe and Myeshia Jeter. Second row are Harley Jo Bright, Cassie Horne and Brandon Claiborne. Back row are Eliza Genoble, Emily Lemmons and Aubrey Key. Bright was the runner-up for the middle school and Randy Riddle was the middle school champion. Bright is in the seventh grade and Riddle is in the sixth grade.

Smith was the runner-up for the elementary school and Truong was the winner for the elementary school. Both are in the fifth grade.

JONESVILLE — Jonesville Elementary/Middle School participated Jan. 23 in the annual Spelling Bee sponsored by the Spartanburg Herald-Journal. Students in grades three through eight participated in a Classroom Bee and then the winners of each Class Bee represented their homerooms in a School Bee.

The winner and runner-up representing the elementary school are Ryan Truong and Andrew Smith, both fifth-graders. The middle school winner and runner-up are sixth-grader Randy Riddle and seventh-grader Harley Jo Bright. They will represent the school at the Regional Spelling Bee on March 2.

Union County is sponsoring the Meansville Riley Water Company's application for a $350,000 grant through the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority. The grant would enable the company to install approximately 31,000 linear feet of new water main on eight different roadways and improve water quality. If requested to do so, should the county sponsor more such grant applications by other local water companies?
