UNION — The world’s most famous clown returned to the Union County Carnegie Library to once again deliver a message of the importance and fun of reading.
For the past several years, Ronald McDonald has participated in the library summer reading program, helping to encourage children to read, not only during the summer but throughout their lives. He did so again Monday morning, using games, books and humor, often with the assistance of children from the audience, to show children how important and how much fun it is to start and keep “digging into reading.”
“It’s all about reading, about digging into reading and the adventures we can go on through books,” McDonald said. “There’s all sorts of adventures from going on construction sites to digging for dinosaur bones.
“What we’re doing with our program is we’re telling them that by reading a book you plant the succeeds of success and fun in your life,” he said. “That’s what we do, have fun.”
Library Director Ben Loftis said Ronald McDonald’s involvement in the summer reading program is an opportunity to not only encourage children to read but help them have fun doing so and meet someone famous in the process.
“He brings a message about reading, about summer reading,” Loftis said. “It’s a fun way for the library to promote literacy and encourage reading and at the same time the children have the opportunity to meet a popular character.”
