The Union County boys tennis team is in the hunt for a playoff bid with a 2-2 region record. The Jackets currently occupy third place in Region III-AAA and made their case a little stronger on Tuesday with a 4-2 win over Broome. Union County travels to Chapman tonight (Friday), where a win will be good enough to move into a tie for second place in the region.
“Chapman is ranked #2 right now and they beat us 4-2 the first time around,” said Union County Head Coach Tom Adamo. “If we win Thursday’s match, it would probably set up a tiebreaker match for the playoff spot, providing neither of us loses again after that.”
While he’s pleased that Union County’s playoff hopes are still alive, Adamo doesn’t want his team to get ahead of itself.
“We cannot afford to overlook anyone,” he said. “Broome is still in the mix and there are still a lot of scenarios that can play out.”
With Tuesday’s win, Union County improved its record to 8-2 overall, 2-2 in the region.
