UNION — A session of Common Pleas Court scheduled for next week has been canceled and local residents summoned for jury duty do not have to report to the courthouse according to Union County Clerk of Court Freddie Gault.
Gault said Friday that the session of Common Pleas Court had been scheduled to begin Tuesday but was canceled after the cases to be heard were either settled or rescheduled. He said anyone who received a summons for jury duty for next week’s session of Common Pleas Court is excused and does have to report to or contact his office.
“The cases that were scheduled have either been settled or rescheduled to another date by Judge Hayes,” Gault said. “Due to this fact we will not be having court next week.
“Anyone who was summoned for jury duty for next week’s session of Common Pleas Court is excused,” he said. “We have made an attempt to contact every juror scheduled for Common Pleas Court and let them know they do not have to report, they do not have to call, they have been excused because court has been canceled.”
Gault cautioned that the cancellation only applies to that session of Common Pleas Court, not to any scheduled session of criminal court.
“This is common pleas or civil court, not criminal court,” Gault said. “Any criminal court dates that have been set will continue as scheduled. Anyone bonded out for criminal court will still have to go by the rules of those bonds. This just for civil court only.”
