Crime Report

The Union County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrest:

– Daniel Neil Williams, 31, of 251 Old English Road, Union, was charged with breach of peace. According to the incident report, officers were sent to his home around 1:30 p.m. Jan. 17 to be present while a tanning bed was removed from the home. While officers were on the way there, Williams called 911 to report a vehicle in front of his house. After officers arrived, it was determined the people in the vehicle were there to help remove the tanning bed from the home. Williams became loud and belligerent, told the officers he was not going to let the person getting the tanning bed have it and said he had sold it.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office reported the following incidents:

– A Jonesville man reported on Jan. 17 that a vehicle he had sold to a Gaffney woman in December 2012 had been sold for scrap while there was a lien on the vehicle. The complainant told officers that the vehicle had been wrecked and disposed of within the last month but he did not have an exact date.

– A Jonesville man reported on Jan. 17 that he had given two mopeds to another man to repair on July 1, 2012, but the man who was doing the repair stripped the mopeds and sold the parts. The total loss was listed at $1,000.

– The manager of Dollar General, 1303 Lockhart Highway in Union, reported Jan. 17 that a woman came in to the store and shoplifted $40 in merchandise. The manager identified the woman and warrants for her arrest have been signed. Items stolen included a bra, pain reliever, make up and shampoo.

Union County is sponsoring the Meansville Riley Water Company's application for a $350,000 grant through the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority. The grant would enable the company to install approximately 31,000 linear feet of new water main on eight different roadways and improve water quality. If requested to do so, should the county sponsor more such grant applications by other local water companies?
