Saturday, Feb. 9

9:30 a.m.: The Missionary Auxiliary of the Pacolet River Baptist Association will hold its quarterly meeting at Bethel Baptist Church, 904 Pea Ridge Highway, Jonesville. Minister Brenda W. Byrd, President of the Missionary Auxiliary. Rev. James Mason, Moderator of the Pacolet River Baptist Association. Rev. J.E. Tillotson, Pastor of Bethel Baptist Church.

10 a.m.: Corinth Baptist Church, 302 N. Herndon St. in Union, will had a Health Watch. Teacher will be Libby Wittker of SAFE Home Rape Crisis Coalition. Topic will be Sexual Assault and Abuse. Facilitators are Louis Lyles and Amelia Glenn. Rev. J. Archie Calhoun, Pastor. All are welcome.

1 p.m.: The YPD of Jeter Chapel will holst a chicken stew at the home of Pat and Bennie Dawkins on the Joe Walker Road. The stew will be ready around 1 p.m. Anthony Washington, Pastor.

Sunday, Feb. 10

Noon until: Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 1622 Kelly Road in Union, serves Sunday dinner consisting of fried chicken, roast beef, steak and gravy, creamed potatoes, rice and gravy, macaroni pie, green beans, Lima beans, slaw, rolls, tea, and dessert. The cost is $8 per person. Call 427-1622 for takeouts which will be ready at 11:45 a.m.

Noon until: Hebron Baptist Church, Whitmire Highway, Union, will be having a soup and sandwich lunch following morning worship service in the church social hall. The menu will consist of chicken stew, vegetable soup, potato soup, cornbread, pimento cheese, deviled egg sandwiches, tea, and dessert. Eat in or takeout. Tickets are $5. The lunch is part of a fund raising effort by the church to raise funds for its pastor, the Rev. Brian Childers, to participate in a mission trip to Nicaragua in June.

2 p.m.: Antioch AME Church hosts a Matters of the Heart program featuring Sister Patricia Davis, Sister Melinda Wickes, Sister Penny Bellensen and Sister Angela Scott.

Tuesday, Feb. 12

7 p.m.: Philippi Baptist Church, 327 Philippi Church Road in Union, holds its 2013 Sportsman’s Supper Family Night. Michael Roth is the guest speaker. Tickets are $10, which includes dinner. Call (864) 398-6188 for tickets or more information.

Thursday, Feb. 14

5 p.m. until 7 p.m.: True Light Ministries, 2407 Fair Avenue, Newberry, will sponsor a Valentine’s Day Free Giveaway and Concert at the Whitmire Community Center. Dinner is on us and everything is free. You can dine in with us or have it to go. There will also be great gospel singing. Troy Price, Pastor.

Saturday, Feb. 16

5:30 p.m.: Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church will hold its 11th Annual Wild Game Supper with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and dinner beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children (8 and under). 12:30 p.m.: Covenant Baptist Church will hold a Relay For Life dinner.

2:30 p.m.: James Chapel Baptist Church, 527 Pinckney St. in Carlisle, celebrates the eighth anniversary of its pastor. The guest speaker is D.S. President of St. Matthews First Baptist Church. The public is invited.

3 p.m.: The St. Paul Adult Choir will be celebrating its 38th anniversary at 3 p.m. at St. Paul Baptist Church, 308 Wallace St., Union.

Wednesday, Feb. 20

11 a.m.-2 p.m.: Sardis United Methodist Church, 976 Sardis Road in Union, holds a Mission Soup and Sandwich Lunch. The menu will include vegetable beef soup, cornbread, chicken salad or pimento cheese sandwich, dessert and tea for $7 per plate. The church is also selling chicken salad and pimento cheese for $6 per pint and vegetable soup for $6 per quart. Call (864) 427-9676 for carryouts of 10 or more. All sales go to the missions of the church.

Sunday, Feb. 24

2:30 p.m.: The Mitchell Chapel Christian Church’s Men’s Ministry will sponsor “A Fellowship Program.” The Rev. Dr. James Mason of New Emanuel Chapel of the Kelton Community will be our guest speaker. The public is invited. Rev. Tony and Rev. LaQuita Griffin are our pastors.

Saturday, March 2

10 a.m.: The Pacolet River Baptist Sunday School Convention will observe its Annual Vacation Bible School Workshop at the Baptist Center on Lovers Lane, Union. Moderator Dr. James L. Mason, President Lena J. Thompson, and Vacation Bible School Director Jared Smith.

6 p.m.: Lockhart United Methodist Church will host a gospel singing with the southern gospel group The Pathfinders. Also appearing will be Union’s own Heath Walker. A love offering will be taken. Come for a relaxed evening.

Sunday, March 17

2 p.m.: The Pacolet River Baptist Sunday School Convention will observe its Annual Youth Program at the Baptist Center on Lovers Lane, Union. Host Church Mt. Olive, Host Pastor Rev. Ronald Feaster, and Host Superintendent James Thompson.

Sunday, April 7

Revivals/Other events

Foster’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 392 Pea Ridge Hwy. in Jonesville, hosts a Consignment Sale from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. March 8 and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 9. Anyone can enter items in the sale. Vendor booths will be set up for products and the women of the church will sell hot dogs and snacks. All proceeds are to help buy new playground equipment. The Kingdom Hearts Ministry of Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Jonesville, S.C. will celebrate its 2nd Annual 3-Day Conference beginning Friday, February 22 at 6 p.m. with Minister Kim Glenn as keynote speaker. On Saturday, February 23, there will be a workshop on various topics at 10 a.m. and lunch will be served following the workshop. On Sunday, February 24 at 3 p.m. keynote speaker will Sister Catherine Moore from White Plains Baptist Church, Laurens, S.C., and Sister Carla Jones and the White Plains Mass Choir will render songs and praises. McBeth Baptist Church will hold a Deacons Training Workshop each Tuesday beginning February 12 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The four-week workshop on February 12, 19, and 26 and March 5. The public is in invited to learn and gain acknowledge about being a deacon. Rev. Freddie L. Wicker Jr, Pastor.

The Pacolet River Baptist Sunday School Convention will observe its Annual Baptist Education, Mission and Training Clinic, Monday-Friday, April 22-26. Rev. Wendell Cain, Pastor of Crossroads Baptist, Sharon, S.C., will be the guest lecturer Tuesday at 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday repasts are served at 6:30 p.m., devotion at 7 p.m. Friday, repast is served at 6 p.m., devotion at 6:30 p.m.

The Mitchell Chapelt Christian Church of 381 Kelly Road, Union, is now holding service at our new location/church building on 143 Camelot Drive, Union, at the same time. Rev. Tony and Rev. LaQuita Griffin are pastors of MCCC.

Ongoing Events

A Moms in Prayer group meets at 10 a.m. Tuesdays in the Family Ministry Center of Bethel United Methodist Church, 1705 Lockhart Highway. All interested persons are invited to participate.

The Missionary Auxiliary of the Pacolet River Baptist Association has an Emergency Food Pantry in the rear (annex) of the town hall in Jonesville. The pantry is open Friday from 9:30 a.m. to noon and other times by calling the numbers posted on the sign at the entrance of the annex. Bring identification and proof residence.

Union County is sponsoring the Meansville Riley Water Company's application for a $350,000 grant through the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority. The grant would enable the company to install approximately 31,000 linear feet of new water main on eight different roadways and improve water quality. If requested to do so, should the county sponsor more such grant applications by other local water companies?
