Sims wraps up perfect season with shutout

The Sims Middle School wrestling team completed its perfect season with a 102-0 shutout over Broome on Tuesday night.

“The kids wrestled the best match of the year,” said Coach Jon Langenfeld of his Tigers. “Once they took their opponents down, they stayed behind the hips and worked a good move. They all took great shots and set up the move perfect.”

Of 17 matches, the four-time conference champs had 14 pins with three forfeits over Broome for its 102 points.

“They all got a pin,” said Langenfeld. “It was nice to see the kids wrestle a complete match three days before the state tournament. We have two days left to prepare for state and we’re doing it by practicing with the varsity squad so these are very intense, very fast paced practices.”

Five Sims wrestlers — Dre Glenn, A.J. Hunter, Trevell Norman, Debo Woods and Luke Dill — qualified for the state tournament in Columbia on Saturday and Langenfeld expects big things from each of them.

“We’re excited about state and these guys have the potential to bring home a first place team finish.”

The Tigers were expected to have one final match on Thursday against Eastside but Coach Jon Langenfeld learned on Tuesday that the opposing team had decided not to compete.

Union County is sponsoring the Meansville Riley Water Company's application for a $350,000 grant through the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority. The grant would enable the company to install approximately 31,000 linear feet of new water main on eight different roadways and improve water quality. If requested to do so, should the county sponsor more such grant applications by other local water companies?
