UNION — The Sims girls’ basketball team suffered a 32-16 loss to Woodruff on Thursday night. The home standing Tigers led 8-4 after one period and trailed by a score of 15-14 at intermission. After getting into serious foul trouble early, the Sims girls managed only two points in the second half.

The Tigers used solid defense in the first half to hold Woodruff’s two leading scorers to a single field goal and also helped to jump-start the Tigers offense.

“Alexis Beatty and Kassie Bradburn did a great job of guarding those two,” said Coach Kenny Harris. “Alexis and Ashley Vinson continued to help us with their shooting. I am very proud of the whole team for the hustle and effort we gave. Coach (Daniel) Addis always has his team well prepared and I have to give Woodruff credit for turning the game around in the second half.”

Sims was led in scoring by Alexis Beatty with 8 points, Brooke Smith with 4, and Aniya Byrd scoring 2, along with Ashley Vinson. The Tigers record is now 1-11 overall, 0-9 region, as they travel to Fairforest on Monday to close out the regular season.

Union County is sponsoring the Meansville Riley Water Company's application for a $350,000 grant through the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority. The grant would enable the company to install approximately 31,000 linear feet of new water main on eight different roadways and improve water quality. If requested to do so, should the county sponsor more such grant applications by other local water companies?
