Bad Trip

Justin Brannon went to Ohio with Laura, Sherry and Timmy Turner. He said the worst part of the trip was breaking down on the way there, and sleeping in the car in the cold. I believe he said it was 1 a.m. in the morning. BRRR!

Crazy Weather

I called my uncles in Michigan yesterday, they said they’ve had a few warm days — 50 degrees! Now they were serious. I hated to tell them we’ve hit 85. This has been a couple of crazy months where the weather is concerned.

Pollen

What about all this pollen. I had the greenest car this morning. A couple of days ago I paid to have my car cleaned up. Well that was a waste of money. I had to run it through the car wash this morning, and by the time I went into Walmart and out, in about a half hour, my car was a pale green, again. The time before when I had my car cleaned it rained the next day. Should I give up?

Movies

Let’s go to the movies. Well isn’t that how the critics start up?

I’ve been to so many movies since the first of the year, and they were all free, but the job’s over with. We had to use them up before the end of March. But we did have two left from the Spartan 16 that they presented us with and guess what we went to see? Evil Dead. Don’t tell Gina but I sat through most of it with my eyes closed. I tried to go to sleep, but the noise kept me awake. She said it wasn’t gory enough, I had a different opinion. I want to say how stupid is it to go stay at an abandoned cabin in the middle of the woods.

The Cabin In The Woods

Well, when I was a brave teenager, I spent the night in a cabin in the woods. My family (grandparents, two uncles and aunts and parents) had a cabin on a lake in the upper middle of Michigan. We spent almost every weekend there, but for some reason, later in years, my dad also bought a small (one room) log cabin in the woods. Well, four of us girls decided we wanted to spend the night at the small cabin instead of with the family. So my dad let me borrow the car and my cousins and I took off on our adventure. First we went to the A&W for root beer and a little flirting.

We started going down the long eerie wooded dirt road to the cabin and we saw lights following us. We got in the driveway real fast and flew into the house, and kept the lights off, while peeking out the window. Of course we had a wild imagination, you know there was four female brains working on this. Well they just stayed down the road for a little while and then left. Well here we were, the only thing to sleep on was one hide a bed, we got ready for bed and all crawled in, then the foot of the bed came up off the floor, apparently this was not a well balanced couch.

Guess what we took for entertainment? Ghost magazines and read the stories out loud. Well we started hearing noises outside, remember imaginations were wild. Anyway what we heard was creatures in the night. Like raccoons, etc. and the babbling brook that ran beside the cottage. In the morning, this place really was beautiful, with the water flowing over the rocks, etc. But at night we could have played Evil Dead.

On The Phone At The Movies

P.S., when you go to the movies, please don’t relay the whole movie to someone on the phone. We had two girls in front of us that did just that. They talked the whole time, and I really believe that a third party couldn’t make it, because the light on one girl’s phone was on the whole time, and when one girl got up to go to the bathroom, the other one kept talking. But now I scream and jump in the movies, but so does some of the others. That’s different.

Festival

Thank you to the people that came out for Lockhart’s Festival that Jacob’s Well put on. We didn’t have all the vendors that we expected, but thanks to the ones that did come, Everyone said they had a good time. The singing was great.

Thanks to the ones that brought their classic cars, Charles Thomason, Ronnie Thomason, Sammy Baines, and Little Sam. I had mentioned that the Classic Car Club would be here, but they had another commitment. So double thanks to the four of you, and everyone loved your cars.

I had to work and didn’t get down to it until after 3 p.m., but I will get with Mitch and Spencer and get you a real story on the Annual Festival. Maybe next year more of you will show up, like it is in Union, Jonesville and Pacolet. This is just my opinion and not anyone else’s.

Birthdays

Happy Belated Birthday to Johnny Belue on the 2nd of April.Deloris Clayton’s was on the 4th. I think I forgot to add birthdays the last couple of weeks, so sorry. Steve and Sheila Robinson had an anniversary on the 5th, and Hilda and Buster Hefner had one on the 6th.

Dylan Fowler’s birthday was April 9th, Rev. Jessie Bentley on the 10th, and Freddie Baldwin on the 13th and Judy Sprouse on the 14th. Tammy Childers’ on the 16th. and Ann Vinson’s on the 20th. Tommy and Regina Denton’s anniversary was April 9th, also.

Bad Bet

Whack! A woman hits her husband right on the head with a rolled up magazine!

“What’s that for?” he shouts.

“That” she says, “was for the piece of paper I found, with the name Laurie Sue on it.”

“But, dear,” he says, “that was just the name of a horse I bet on when I went to the track.”

“Okay,” she replies, “I”ll let it go, this time.”

Two weeks later,whack!

“Now what?” he wails.

“Your horse called.”

Prayers

Prayers are needed for Boone Morris, Inez Cabiness, Dean O’Dell, Margaret Montgomery, Carolyn Rash, and do you have anyone you want to add?

Well I’ll cut this short and say good night. 545-6652

Oh, I forgot to mention that while in Spartanburg tonight, I ran into Joan Little, she is always a joy to meet up with. Again good night.

Union County is sponsoring the Meansville Riley Water Company's application for a $350,000 grant through the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority. The grant would enable the company to install approximately 31,000 linear feet of new water main on eight different roadways and improve water quality. If requested to do so, should the county sponsor more such grant applications by other local water companies?
