UNION — A center that allows four non-profit public service organizations to have a physical presence in Union County will have its grand opening Wednesday morning.
The Union County NonProfit Partnership Center, which is located in the Union County Health Department, is being shared by The United Way of the Piedmont, the S.C. Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Red Cross, and Able South Carolina. The space for the center was provided by the county to enable the organizations — which will share the responsibility and cost of operating the center — to offer their programs locally. Prior to the establishment of the center, the organizations did not have a physical presence in Union County, but with the center they will each have one, though the schedule of when each organization will be at the center is still being worked out.
The services offered by the organizations include:
• United Way of the Piedmont — Raises funds in the communities it serves and then reinvests those funds in those communities to promote education, financial stability, and health.
• The S.C. Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association — Advocacy, care consultation, and information about resources available for Alzheimer’s patients and their families.
• American Red Cross — Helps people recover from disasters such as house fires and provides health, safety, CPR, and first aid training. The Red Cross also supports members of the military and their families through its Armed Services program.
• Able South Carolina — Formerly known as the Disability Action Center, it offers four core services — information referral, peer support, independent living skills, and advocacy — designed to help the disabled live independently. Able South Carolina also collects donations of used medical equipment including wheelchairs, walkers, and crutches which it in turn provides to those in need of them.
The grand opening of the center will be celebrated with an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 11 a.m.
