JONESVILLE — Jonesville Middle exacted revenge on crosstown rival Lockhart Wednesday night with a 13-7 win. The Wildcats, who fell to Lockhart last week 8-6, jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the first when Gerald Hughes cleared the bases with a grand-slam over the center field fence. Jonesville went on a seven-run second inning to take a 12-1 lead, capitalizing on seven walks and two hits.

Lockhart rallied for three runs in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth before the game was called due to the two-hour time limit.

Jonesville hitting: Gerald Hughes — Grand Slam, Brandon Thompson — 2 hits, Quon Smith, Michael Mosley — 1 hit.

Lockhart hitting: Gage Sanders — 2 hits, Ryan Vaughan, Anthony McClaren, Seth Parker, Daniel Hill — 1 hit.

Hunter Blackwell and Hunter Davis shared time on the hill for Jonesville and combined for four strikeouts with six walks.

Lockhart’s battery of Parker and Vaughan allowed eight walks with two strikeouts.

The Wildcats suffered a 12-5 loss to Landrum on Tuesday and defeated Campobello on Thursday, 12-1.

Bentley Burr picked up the win with five walks, three strikeouts and one earned run. Brandon Thompson, Hunter Blackwell, Gerald Hughes and Micheal Mosley contributed to the win with one hit each.

Sims Softball

The Sims softball team blanked Byrnes on Wednesday, 7-0.

Rebecca Lee pitched the shut out, striking out nine batters.

Lee and Abby Valentine each had two hits for the Tigers. Natasha Dunn was 2 for 2 with a double while Jazmyne Boyd, Tayler Stines and Katelyn Petty each had a hit.

Sims Baseball

Trey Bevis tossed a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts and went 1-2 at the plate to help on Wednesday, helping Sims to a 12-1 victory over Whitmire’s JV baseball team.

Twelve runs in the opening three innings allowed the Tigers to put it away early.

Tyreze Jeter racked up five RBIs on two hits for Sims including a grand slam in the third inning. Kolby Riddle was 2 for 3 while Markevius Glenn, Matthew Caldwell and Caleb Goodwin each added hits.

On Tuesday, Sims fell to Byrnes C-Team 8-4 in six innings despite a 3-4 performance from Theodore Walker.

Byrnes C-Team took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a walk and didn’t trail again in the contest.

Sims Hitting: Walker — 3 for 4, Goodwin — 2 for 3.

Union County is sponsoring the Meansville Riley Water Company's application for a $350,000 grant through the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority. The grant would enable the company to install approximately 31,000 linear feet of new water main on eight different roadways and improve water quality. If requested to do so, should the county sponsor more such grant applications by other local water companies?
