CLEMSON — Clemson University brought a dream to reality on Saturday for local cancer survivor, 10-year-old Trey Sailors. The Tigers’ athletic department hosted Sailors and his family for an evening of baseball that included a couple of perks for its guest of honor.

Sailors was brought into the Clemson dugout prior to Saturday’s game where he was introduced to the players as well as Coach Jack Leggett. Sailors took pictures, received autographs and was presented a baseball that was signed by members of the team. In the top of the fifth inning, he was called onto the field and allowed to steal second base. Afterward he was given a t-shirt that boasts, “I stole second base, catch me if you can.”

“When he found out he was going to meet the players and the coach, the expression on his face was priceless,” said Sailors’ mother, Tiffany. “Then getting to steal second base…It was so exciting.”

In addition to the special attention he was shown, Sailors also enjoyed watching Clemson clobber Georgia Southern in a 7-0 shutout.

“That was the coolest thing I’ve ever done,” said Sailors. “I had a blast and I can’t wait to go back.”
