UNION – The Union County Arts Council brought some life to Main Street recently when a reception for Spartanburg artist Larry Mauldin was held in the UCAC gallery. Nearly 120 people turned out to welcome Mauldin and his work to town.

“The attendance was wonderful for our first reception of 2013,” said UCAC president Bennie Giles. “We were really lucky to be able to get an artist of Larry’s stature to show his work here.”

Mauldin’s watercolor show will run through Feb. 8 and can be viewed during normal gallery hours.

As a special addition to the Mauldin exhibit, UCAC will be offering a watercolor workshop on March 16, which will be an eight-hour class taught by the artist.

“This will be a very popular workshop and will sell out very quickly,” said Jackie Senn, UCAC coordinator. “Larry is a popular teacher in the area and we’re limiting the class size to only 12 students so there will be a lot of individual instruction. Any artists who are interested in the workshop should register very quickly.”

For more information about this or other UCAC offerings, call 864-429-2817 or email ucac@bellsouth.net.

Union County is sponsoring the Meansville Riley Water Company's application for a $350,000 grant through the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority. The grant would enable the company to install approximately 31,000 linear feet of new water main on eight different roadways and improve water quality. If requested to do so, should the county sponsor more such grant applications by other local water companies?
