• USC Union will host College Goal South Carolina from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in the university’s Central Building.

College Goal South Carolina is a free annual event to help students and families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, also known as FAFSA. The College Goal is open to all college-bound students, regardless of age. Dependent students under age 24 will need to bring a parent or legal guardian. Even if you are not sure you will be attending college right out of high school, College Goal is still important to attend to ensure you will not miss deadlines when applying for college later on. There will be a drawing to win a Mini iPad and stylus, as well as other random prizes.

If you plan on attending the event, please have the following information: 2012 Federal tax return (or other income documentation), social security number, driver’s license, 2012 W-2 forms or year-end pay stubs, records of money received for both students and parents/legal guardian, 2012 untaxed income records, 2012 bank statements for both student and parent/legal guardian, 2012 business and investment mortgage information and alien registration card (if you are not a US citizen). Also, if you are planning to fill out the FAFSA online at the event, please have your PIN for the FAFSA available. If you don’t have your PIN, you can apply for it www.pin.ed.gov.

• The SC Jewels Travel Basketball Organization will have signups for boys and girls from the second grade through the 12th grade and a Parent Information Meeting at 11 a.m. at Sims Middle School, 2200 Whitmire Highway, Union. The Purpose of the SC Jewels Basketball Organizations is to initiate, stimulate, and improve opportunities for the youth through basketball. • Union County School Math, Science ad Technology Night is held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. All schools will display student work in math, science and technology. Local industry will highlight technical skills needed for their workforce. Other industry will display advances in technology in their fields. Union County High School Guidance will offer support in college applications and career guidance. Camp information will be available for students.

• The Austin Rehab Relay For Life team is raising money through three ongoing fundraisers: selling cookbooks for $10, selling short-sleeved T-shirts for $12 and long-sleeved T-shirts for $15, and $1 raffle tickets for a three-month fitness. The Missionary Auxiliary of the Pacolet River Baptist Association has an Emergency Food Pantry in the rear (annex) of the town hall in Jonesville. The pantry is open Friday from 9:30 a.m. to noon and other times by calling the numbers posted on the sign at the entrance of the annex. Bring identification and proof residence.

New Emanuel Chapel Baptist Church has changed its services times to 9 a.m. for Sunday School and 10 a.m. for Praise and Worship.

Thursday, June 20

• The Good Neighbors Garden Club meets at Andy’s in Buffalo at 1 p.m.

• Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 644 meets, starting with some edibles at 6:30 p.m., followed by the business meeting at 7 p.m. The meeting will again be at the Legion Hut at 120 Scenic Drive in Foster Park, Union. Business includes planning for a possible Veterans Picnic. The VVA meets on the third Thursday of the month, and Vietnam Era veterans interested in becoming members are always welcome as guests.

• Downtown Summer Music Fest held at the USC Union Gazebo. This is the second event in the four event series and begins at 11 a.m. The entertainment features “Hit-N-Run” and “Not Even Brothers.” Games and inflatable bounce house will be available for children. • Union County Arts Council’s Youth Summer Art Camp with Katie Paschall. Students will be taught a variety of watercolor techniques during this week-long camp. The camp will run through June 28 and meet from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the UCAC gallery on Main Street in Union.
