Saturday, May 4

8 a.m.-Until: Jonesville Baptist Church, Church Street, Jonesville, holds a yard sale at the church parsonage at 536 South Main Street. Lots of household items, also very nice men and ladies clothing and shoes. Proceeds will go to Jonesville Baptist Church’s Nicaragua mission trip. Rain or shine.

Sunday, May 5

11 a.m.: Victory Baptist Church holds Homecoming with Rev. Jack Bratton from Newport, Tenn. preaching the morning service at 11 a.m. and a 2 p.m. singing by the Lamberts. All former members are invited. Everyone welcome.

Saturday, May 18

11 a.m.-5 p.m.: Seekwell Baptist Church, 6166 Brazelsman Bridge Road, Whitmire, holds a May Fun Festival. There will be a gospel sing-off competition and a wrapping of the maypole and food, games, and entertainment. For more information contact Angela Clark at 803-924-0273.

5 p.m.: The Littlejohn Singers of New Emanuel celebrate their 27th Gospel Anniversary.

Sunday, May 19

10:30 a.m.: New Hope Baptist Church on the Linersville Road in Buffalo has Homecoming. Soul Vision from Brevard, N.C. will be singing. Everyone is welcome. Johnny Burgess, Pastor.

Saturday, May 25

9 a.m.: Mt. Calvary Baptist Church holds a prayer breakfast. The speaker is Minister Velinda Mintz. Tickets are $5.

Noon: Pacolet River Association, 168 Lovers Lane Road, Union, hosts a Chinese Auction with more than 100 items available. Ticket drop off time is 10 a.m. until noon. The auction will start promptly at noon with no exceptions. You must be present to win. Hot dogs will be sold. The event is sponsored by St. Paul Baptist Church Usher Board. Sunday, May 26

11 a.m.: Buffalo Baptist Church, 1424 Main St., Buffalo, hosts a concert by Reggie Saddler and family, featured singers on Bill Gaither’s Gospel Homecoming videos. The public is invited to attend.

Saturday, June 1

6 p.m.: The Pacolet River Baptist Sunday School Convention holds its annual Youth Banquet at the Baptist Center on Lovers Lane in Union.

Sunday, June 9

2 p.m.: Sims Chapel Baptist Church holds its Family and Friends Day.

Revivals/Other Events

The 136th Annual Session of the Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of S.C. will convene on May 5-11 at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Spartanburg, South Carolina. Dr. Benjamin D. Snoddy and the Spartanburg Association Family will serve as hosts. Our Welcome Night speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Stephen Thurston, President of the National Baptist Convention of America. All services will be held at the church. Please mark your calendars for the President’s Educational Banquet, which will be held on Wednesday, May 8at the Marriott Renaissance Hotel, 299 N. Church St., Spartanburg, South Carolina 29306, at 6:30 p.m. The speaker will be Dr. Clarence Moore, Vice President of the Southeastern Region of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.

Ongoing Events

Mitchell Chapel Christian Church, 381 Kelly Road in Union, holds services at its new location, 143 Camelot Drive in Union.

A Moms in Prayer group meets at 10 a.m. Tuesdays in the Family Ministry Center of Bethel United Methodist Church, 1705 Lockhart Highway. All interested persons are invited to participate.

The Missionary Auxiliary of the Pacolet River Baptist Association has an Emergency Food Pantry in the rear (annex) of the town hall in Jonesville. The pantry is open Friday from 9:30 a.m. to noon and other times by calling the numbers posted on the sign at the entrance of the annex. Bring identification and proof residence.

Covenant Baptist Church will have a Sunday meal once a month for Relay For Life. The meals will be held at 12:30 p.m. on February 17, March 17, and April 21. Call Ponnee at 427-3102.

New Emanuel Chapel Baptist Church has changed its services times to 9 a.m. for Sunday School and 10 a.m. for Praise and Worship.

Union County is sponsoring the Meansville Riley Water Company's application for a $350,000 grant through the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority. The grant would enable the company to install approximately 31,000 linear feet of new water main on eight different roadways and improve water quality. If requested to do so, should the county sponsor more such grant applications by other local water companies?
