UNION — Feel lost when it comes to social network websites such as Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest? USC Union wants to help.
USC Union will host a workshop called “Social Networking with Annie” from 4-5:30 p.m. June 10-12 in the university’s library.
The class promises to teach students to set up and join social networks, post text and pictures, set up Pinterest boards, “tweet” on Twitter, as well as find and join friends.
“Basically the workshop is for anyone wanting to ‘spruce up’ their social media skills or learn how to start from scratch with Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest,” said workshop instructor Annie Smith, who is also Director of Communications/Public Relations at the university.
“The class will start from the beginning — what is social media, what is social networking, and where do I go from here?” she said. “The class is for anyone — man/woman/child/senior/middle age — who has or has not joined Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest.”
Smith said students will learn to set up profiles, find friends and relatives, add pictures, secure their privacy settings, post statuses and more.
“Once everyone has the hang of Facebook, we will then do the same thing with Twitter and Pinterest,” Smith said. “You can login to both of those using Facebook, and that is basically the main reason, other than those being the most familiar, we chose those three.”
Smith said although women are more familiar with the Pinterest site, men can also benefit from its many do-it-yourself projects, grilling recipes and “how-to instructions.”
“This will be a fun class, and people will leave with the basics of the three social networking sites.”
Each person who signs up is required to have an email address and email password ready. Students will also need to know how to check their email’s inbox and sign in using their username/password. This is because most social media sites require sign-in using an email address and/or click a link that they send to confirm their valid email address.
Continuing Education’s work study, Kaitlyn Wade, will assist Smith during the class to be sure no one is left behind.
