CROSS KEYS — A single-car accident Tuesday morning in the Cross Keys area sent the driver to the hospital after her vehicle flipped over.

L/Cpl Billy Elder of the S.C. Highway Patrol said the accident happened around 10:55 a.m. on S.C. 49 (Cross Keys Highway) nine miles west of Union. Elder said a 2002 Dodge four-door was traveling north when it went off the left side of the road and down an embankment. He said the vehicle struck a fence and then overturned.

The Dodge was driven by Jami Pittman Rhodes, 22, of Clinton, S.C. Elder said Rhodes was transported by ambulance to Wallace Thomson Hospital. He said Rhodes has been charged by the highway patrol with driving too fast for conditions.

Union County is sponsoring the Meansville Riley Water Company's application for a $350,000 grant through the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority. The grant would enable the company to install approximately 31,000 linear feet of new water main on eight different roadways and improve water quality. If requested to do so, should the county sponsor more such grant applications by other local water companies?
