Crime Report

The Union Public Safety Department reported the following arrests:

— Robert Earl Browning, Jr., 31, of 1208 West Main Street, Union, was charged with assault and battery around 1:55 p.m. on January 24. The arrest warrant states that Browning threw a female onto a bed, scratched her chest and struck her in the face while at a residence on Lakewood Drive in Union.

— Cortez Devante Harris, 20, of 102 Marigold Drive, Union, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and trespassing. Travis Fontaine Sims, 25, of 219 General Lee Drive, Union, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana. According to the incident report, officers responded to an apartment on Lakeside Drive after receiving information that Harris was inside after being issued a trespass notice. Once inside the apartment, officers located several white plastic bags of marijuana. The report states all of the plastic bags appeared to be the same type and color as if they were torn from a bigger bag and used in pieces.

The Union Public Safety Department reported the following incidents:

— A resident of 2nd Street, Union, reported on January 24 that $300 was stolen from her car while it was parked at 1111 Lakeside Drive. The victim stated the money was taken out of her purse, which she placed in the floor of her front passenger seat after parking.

— A resident of William E. Free Pathway, Union, reported on January 24 that a gold necklace, gold bracelet and three gold rings were stolen from his home. According to the incident report, the jewelry was taken from a hutch in the victim’s bedroom, and nothing else was moved. There was no sign of forced entry into the home. The total value of the jewelry is estimated at $1,200.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrest:

— Sunnie Amanda Sadowsky, 23, of 203 Wild Turkey Lane, Pacolet, was charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature. According to the incident report, officers responded to a domestic dispute at the residence, and they immediately noticed Sadowsky had several cuts on her forearm which she stated she inflicted on herself. Another party had a wound to his left forearm which appeared to be a stab wound. The cut was about an inch long and roughly half an inch deep and appeared to have been made with a sharp instrument. Sadowsky was transported to Wallace Thomson Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries, and she was then transported to Union County Jail.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office reported the following incidents:

— A resident of Buffalo Street in Union reported on January 24 that she heard an unknown subject at her back door that morning. She never saw anyone, and nothing appeared to be missing from the property. The responding officer noticed a 19-inch TV a few feet away from the house, and the victim said she didn’t know who it belonged to. The TV was taken in as evidence.

— Another resident of Buffalo Street reported on January 24 that her cedar dog house with a red metal roof was stolen from her back yard on Jan. 23. The victim reported to the officer while he was responding to the previous listed incident.

— A resident of Tinsley Road in Pacolet reported on January 24 that someone stole a quantity of medication from his home. According to the incident report, the victim said as he returned home from work, he saw a white male with light brown hair exiting his home through the back door. The man ran through the woods to Tinsley Road and jumped in a dark colored minivan, which was occupied by two other males. The officer observed fresh tire marks on the side of the road consistent with the victim’s statement.

Union County is sponsoring the Meansville Riley Water Company's application for a $350,000 grant through the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority. The grant would enable the company to install approximately 31,000 linear feet of new water main on eight different roadways and improve water quality. If requested to do so, should the county sponsor more such grant applications by other local water companies?
