Union County kept its perfect 13-0 record intact with a 6-2 win over Nation Ford on Wednesday. Payton Martin picked up the win from the hill and helped herself at the plate with two hits and two runs scored.

Abby Allen lifted the Jackets to a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a solo home run. She finished the day with three hits including a 2-RBI double and a single.

Tanijah Hunter singled in the third inning and and stole her way around the bags to give Union County a 2-0 advantage.

Nation Ford picked up its first run in the fourth and Union County responded with three in the bottom of the inning.

Allen lined a double to the left-center gap in the fifth to drive in Kristin Giles and Martin. Giles reached first on a walk and Martin singled. Allen crossed home plate on a single by CeCe Moorman for the 5-1 lead.

Three hits in the bottom of the fifth helped Nation Ford cut the margin to 5-2 before Union County added a run in the seventh for the 6-2 final. Martin, Allen and Dexlie Inman each contributed a hit to load the bases and Moorman singled to drive in a run.

“Our pitching and defense continues to be strong,” said Union County Assistant Coach Jay Allen. “Our offense still isn’t where it should be but these girls are really working hard.”

Union County is sponsoring the Meansville Riley Water Company's application for a $350,000 grant through the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority. The grant would enable the company to install approximately 31,000 linear feet of new water main on eight different roadways and improve water quality. If requested to do so, should the county sponsor more such grant applications by other local water companies?
