

BUFFALO — Buffalo Elementary School participated in Jump Rope for Heart during the month of January raising $3,035.81. Students participated in activities during the week leading up to the actual Jump Rope for Heart event that was held on January 31.
On Monday, students were to wear red in support of JRFH.
On Tuesday, students participated in a “Creative Heart Day.” Most Creative Heart Award and winner of the gift certificate to Wal-Mart was Dakota Howard from Mrs. Petty’s fifth grade class. Dakota shaved a heart in his head.
The other top four creative hearts were Holeigh Harris, Jay Rector, Jasmine Humphries, and Tyger Suggs.
Top sellers were Logan Davis, Hayley Bobo, Chelsea Dunlap, Anna Grace Humphries, and Hailey Wells. The five were the top fundraisers for the American Heart Association at the school.
Also, Mrs. Caviness’ fifth grade class won for having the most Heart Heroes. Each student bought a Heart Hero for $1 from their teachers with a Heart Hero message. The Heart Heroes were then posted on their classroom doors during the week of Jump Rope For Heart. The winning class received an extra day of physical education.
Students also participated in an essay contest on how their family has been affected by heart disease. The winners of the essay contest were Jaryn Wages and Elainie Lee.
